More CentralAuth comin’ Tuesday

Hey, just to give y’all a heads-up… after a couple months of good testing w/ the sysops & power users, we’re going to widen the CentralAuth rollout to allow everybody on Wikimedia sites to opt-in to the system.

We’re going to keep automatic migration off for now to keep the volume down, as we may want to roll out more helper tools in response to new issues people might have.

  1. Since SUL was turned on for administrators, administrators at the Vietnamese Wikipedia have been getting many requests for account name usurping. The community there hasn’t yet come to a consensus about usurping, so we’ve been denying each such request.

The SUL spec notes that users will eventually be able to login with their home wiki suffixed. Is that still the plan? We would like to mention that syntax as a future workaround, in the event that a local user has already taken the user name.

  2. That’s not currently implemented (and never got into anything planned to be implemented that I know of!) but it might be worth investigating…
